100,000 Iraqis Dead

According to this Associated Press story 100,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the US led war. That's a lot of people. The story also goes on to say that most of them were women and children. Thanks President Bush. I feel safer now.

All life is important, but it's better them than us. I'm sure you won't disagree.

It's always an anonymous poster that says something like "it's better them than us". First of all, Iraq never posed a real threat to us, so there was never an "us" to be worried about. Second, even if you're an atheist, approving of taking 100,000 lives has to sit on your conscious. If you're a religious person, you'll probably be hard-pressed to find a place where your deity specifically says that its okay to kill an innocent individual without some extremely special circumstances. Such as Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son. Even then God ordered Abraham to not do it.

Anyone who approves of allowing innocent people to be killed for their own protection is a coward. Period. Thus, the 'anonymous' post.

You should be thinking of how you could sacrifice your life, or your time, to help people less fortunate instead of sacrificing their lives to help you feel more safe. Pitiful.

Mo-

Wasn't it you, on your website, that called Sadam "not a good guy"? Your understatement conveys your true belief - that Sadam was a man of the people.

Did you even read the article you quoted? The research was performed by a partisan. They tracked deaths at hospitals. Now, ask yourself: who's killed the most Arabs in history? Iraq's shining prince, your buddy Hussein. Do you think they took the children and the women, after they'd been raped and shot in the back of the head, to the hospital so they could be logged and counted by the Iraqi govt's doctors?

The answer is no. BUT, roughly 200,000 have been unearthed from nice little comfy holes in the ground! How perfect!

Pitiful. ** REALLY ** pitiful.

Another trait of the anonymous Bush-backer is their failure to quote sources. Where is our timid friend getting her facts from? We'll never know. Usually it's a cousin or some other uncredible source that is better off left unmentioned.

The final trait of the anonymous Bush-backer is mis-stating facts. The word she's looking for is "hotspot" not "hospital". In any case, what does it matter? Saddam supposedly killed 200,000 although no evidence is presented. We may have killed 100,000 Iraqis in 18 months and we're better? Ms. Anonymous must have some Nazi blood.

Here's the article for those who missed it.

This quote should make it easier:

"A survey of deaths in Iraqi households estimates that as many as 100,000 more people may have died throughout the country in the 18 months after the U.S. invasion than would be expected based on the death rate before the war. "

Ok. Here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3738368.stm

This one describes the infant and fetus-sized bones found in the graves. This article also cites the total estimated in graves at 300,000. I'll hunt for the 200,000 reference some more.

My point about the SF Gate article was that it cited a study in which they compared death rates to pre-war Iraq, during which Saddam didn't take those he killed to the hospital and report them!

Have a look at this:

Nice, huh!

Thx for the links. I think we can all agree that the mass graves of civilians filled with women and children is a severe humanitarian issue. However, I would like to point out that the people who have died as a result of US strikes are most likely buried in very similar mass graves that we will NEVER be informed of.

It appears that Saddam's solution to Iraqi opposition within Iraq is the same as ours. Both are wrong to an extreme degree.

I think we can agree that there have been Iraqi deaths on a massive scale since the US led invasion began. Would you be so eager to continue fighting after seeing a mass grave of Iraqi civilians caused by American hands?

Also, have you ever wondered why we don't hear about Iraqi casualty totals? If we did, we would sound no better than Saddam's regime.

and then when "one" or "twenty" of our American Soldiers dies, (we say, "Oh, only 2 died today....not too bad.) WE are becoming numbed by violence in all media...film, tv, video games, etc. It's appalling that we are able to kill at all. We should get out of Iraq and deal with our homeless problems, economy, and build more schools and less prisons.
